How to Delete Your Data

You have the right to delete your personal data at any time, as guaranteed under GDPR Article 17 (Right to Erasure). Loaf Story provides a self-service option to permanently delete your account and all associated data.

Delete Your Account (Self-Service)

You can delete your account directly from the app. Here's how:

  1. Log in to your Loaf Story account
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Scroll down to the Danger Zone section
  4. Click Delete Account
  5. Review the summary of data that will be deleted
  6. Click Continue and confirm by typing your email address
  7. Click Delete My Account to finalize

What Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed:

  • Your account and all linked logins (Google, Discord)
  • All recipes you created, including trashed ones
  • All recipe images stored in our system
  • Recipe versions and edit history
  • Upvotes you have given
  • User settings and preferences
  • Your stored OpenAI API key (if any)
  • Shared recipe links — these will stop working

What You Should Know

  • Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone
  • You will be signed out immediately after deletion
  • Data is removed from our systems within 30 days of the request
  • If you only want to delete specific recipes, you can do so from your recipe list without deleting your entire account

Delete Individual Recipes

If you don't want to delete your entire account but want to remove specific recipes:

  1. Go to My Recipes
  2. Open the recipe you want to delete
  3. Delete the recipe — it will be moved to your trash
  4. To permanently remove it, go to Settings and find it in the Trash section
  5. Click Delete next to the recipe to permanently remove it

Delete Your OpenAI API Key

Your OpenAI API key is stored locally as a secure cookie in your browser. To remove it:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Under the OpenAI section, click Delete Key

Alternatively, clearing your browser cookies will also remove the key.

Request Data Deletion by Email

If you are unable to access your account or prefer to have us handle the deletion, you can contact us using the details on our Impressum page. Please include the email address associated with your account. We will process your request within 30 days as required by GDPR.
